Me plotting to sail away into the sunset aboard the Kimberley Quest

Welcome to the wonderful world of Fluffy Towel. Fluffy Towel inspires the adventurer in all of us and is aimed at those who love their discoveries as much as their fluffy towels.

As a Perth travel writer, I have been writing professionally since 2005 ranging from travel and lifestyle journalism, copywriting, writing books, publishing and communications.

I am a Writer Member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers, Australia’s peak body for travel media.

Through travel writing, I’m so grateful for the many wonderful opportunities to explore the globe like Bali, Borneo and Thailand. I’ve sipped tea with the Dilmah family in Sri Lanka, explored abandoned tunnels beneath New York’s Grand Central Station and stayed on coffee plantations in southern Colombia. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to explore my own vast state of Western Australia, like our southwest and northwest full of natural wonders, staggering vistas and a vast array of cuisines gifted to us by our multi-cultural community.

After many years as a Perth travel writer, I have published widely across many local, national and international publications, especially for the travel industry. I started Fluffy Towel in 2009 to showcase my work and share my travels with you. The version you are visiting right now was relaunched in 2021 with updated travel content and to incorporate some of my other passions in the design and lifestyle industries.

Travel already takes you out of your comfort zone. But knowing that a little bit of luxury found in a fluffy towel at the end of big day or night of discovery can make the experience so much more enrichening.

Sci-fi nerds will probably already know about the many purposes of a towel, as Douglas Adams shares from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, “A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini-raft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can’t see it, it can’t see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.”

And don’t forget, no man, woman, child or beast with a towel is a force to be reckoned with – especially a fluffy towel on intergalactic travels.
