I was lucky enough to be invited by Show Me Perth to the opening party of the Perth International Burlesque Festival 2013 and here’s what I had to say about it:

The crowd ducks as blonde bombshell Banbury Cross sprays her adoring fans with champagne. Holding the bottle above her, she drizzles the remaining nectar over her body measuring an incredible 32-22-35. She crawls on all fours along the stage making fluttering eye contact with whoever dares play. All she’s wearing is a suggestion of a g-string and as MC Fanny La Rue declares, “If you’re ever going to lose your shit, it’s now.”

There’s more stilettos, fishnets, bosoms and ruby lips you can pout at with the Perth International Burlesque Festival Opening Night. And that’s just in the audience as cameras flash at posing beauties adorned in vintage finery while the Oz Big Band swoons and trumpets to the swinging crowd.

Jacqueline Furey opens the show in a blaze of waist length strawberry locks and ends her performance with little more than red feather fans. Perle Noire works the audience up into a frenzy with her high energy Josephine Baker style act. The cheeky Sugar Du Joure gets her tassels twirling to the roar of the crowd and the Strawberry Siren earns her title as the Tarantino of Burlesque and Miss Nude Australia 2013.

A vigorous Charleston keeps the crowd’s hearts racing and illusionist Simon Coronel even made his clothes disappear. Sugar Blue Burlesque not only present the festival they also entertained with a duo naughty ballerina act.

How lucky is Perth to witness such high calibre entertainers? The tease continues until the 6th July 2013. http://www.perthburlesquefestival.com/
